What a small-business IT checkup covers, and what you get

What a technology checkup looks at, from computers and accounts to email security, backups, and the network, and what a useful written report should tell you.

Why start with a checkup

Most small businesses can't say for certain who has admin access, whether backups work, or which computers are past their useful life. A checkup answers those questions before anyone recommends spending money.

What we look at

  • Computers and updates: age, encryption, patch status, and endpoint protection
  • Accounts and sign-in: MFA coverage, admin access, former-staff accounts, shared passwords
  • Email security: phishing and spoofing protection, forwarding rules, domain records
  • Backups and recovery: what's covered, where it's stored, and whether a restore works
  • Network and Wi-Fi: firewall, guest separation, remote access, aging equipment
  • Software and subscriptions: licenses, overlapping tools, and renewals you may not need

Healthcare clients also get a review of the HIPAA technical safeguards described in our checklist guide.

What the report should tell you

  • What's working and doesn't need money spent on it
  • The risks, ranked by how likely and how damaging they are
  • What to fix first, with a rough cost for each item
  • What can wait, and what to budget for over the next year

A good report is written for the owner or office manager, not for another IT person. If you can't understand it, it isn't finished.

How it works with us

  1. Book a call and tell us about your business and what's bothering you
  2. We review your setup remotely or on-site, depending on your systems and location
  3. You get the findings in writing, with a proposal if you want us to handle them

Tell us what's getting in the way.

Pick a time on our calendar, call, or send a short note. We typically reply within one business day, and a first conversation doesn't commit you to anything.
